Why should I hire an interior designer?

An interior designer might not be high up on the list when hiring professionals to work on home renovations or designs, yet it can be one of the most rewarding services in which to invest. Whilst the painters, joiners, electricians and builders work away on their respective areas, there is one thing that can pull it all together to give you a home you love to live in and make a statement. And that’s interior design.

These are some of the reasons why hiring someone to design your interiors and style your spaces could be the right option for you.

You want to make your house a home but don’t know where to start.

We all have our strengths, and for some people interior design simply isn’t one of them! Hiring a professional can take the hard work out of making your house a home, and give you a space that you love without the headache of designing schemes and sourcing everything. People often invest in things like building work, painting or joinery without thinking about how they’re going to bring spaces to life and turn them into somewhere they love to live. Interior design can be one of the most rewarding investments you can make, and it’s often a fraction of the amount you’ve spent elsewhere!

If you’re building or renovating a home, it can be beneficial to bring a designer into the process as early as possible so that they can advise you on things like lighting, power points and paint colours for walls and trims, which will all affect how you’ll live in the space and will ensure everything flows.

You know what you like, but you don’t know how to get it.

You may have a distinctive style that you’re trying to achieve in your home and you may have seen images of rooms you love on Instagram and Pinterest. However, trying to pull it all together and source everything is a different matter. An interior designer will work with you to understand your style, what you like, and what you don’t like. They’ll find out about how you live and how you’ll be using the spaces in your home. You’ll then be presented with options for a ‘look and feel’ moodboard (a group of images of paint colours, fabrics, furniture and accessories) so that you can see your style brought to life with items that can be sourced by or for you.

You’d love to work alongside an interior designer to create your perfect home but are worried about the cost.

Many of us have a good idea of what styles we like and have our favourite go-to interiors and furniture stockists, however, sometimes we need to work alongside a professional to pull it all together and ensure that the style works seamlessly in and throughout our homes. You might have a tricky room layout that you need to trouble-shoot, or you might just want someone to source different items that you might not have time to find on your own such as fabrics for upholstery or unique pieces of furniture.

In terms of cost, it never hurts to take that first step and reach out to designers. Most interior design studios will be delighted to have a chat with you about your needs and your budget before you commit to anything - you might find that a simple consultation or home styling package that won’t break the bank is all you need!
